Wudun Fm

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Early Nanhuan (latest Tonian-early Cryogenian), Nh (68)

Province:
Fujian

Type Locality and Naming

Northwest Fujian. The Wudun Fm was named by the Party of Regional Geological Survey of Fujian in 1979 (it was published in Geological Bulletin of Fujian in 1985). The naming section is located in Wudun village, 9 km south of Changshun County, Fujian Province.

Synonym: (吴敦组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Wudun Fm is subdivided into three parts, Bottom part of the formation consists of dark gray, light gray metamorphosed polymictic conglomerate with interbedding of thin-bedded of fine-grained sandstone and siltstone. The pebbles of conglomerate are mainly plagio-leptite with secondly quartzite and minor schist. Lower part consists of a gray-green thick-bedded meta-quartz sandstone interbedded with tuffaceous siltstone, quartz schist and chert. Upper part is a gray to green thick-bedded medium- and fine-grained meta-greywacke with occasional wavy bedding that displays the characteristics of neritic volcaniclastic deposition with a rich terrigenous supply. Total thickness is over 2218 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is unconformable with underlying Mayuan Gr (Mesoproterozoic)

Upper contact

It is disconformably overlain by the Longbeixi Fm (upper Nanhuan on schematic stratigraphic chart).

Regional extent

Northwest Fujian. Changshun County, Fujian Province.
